The Parliamentary and Scientific Committee A guide to Science in Parliament and Government: 2007A Publication of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee Science in Parliament - Structures and functions The Parliamentary Information Technology Committee (PITCOM) The Parliamentary Information Technology Committee (PITCOM) was established in 1981 as a forum of discussion between Parliamentarians interested in the new technologies and representatives of leading companies in the UK. Since 1981, it has grown to be one of the largest all-party groups in the House, with 130 Parliamentary Members, from both Houses and over 280 industrial members. The remit of IT ranges from computers, computer systems, telecommunications, data protection, broadcasting, the Internet, plus education and employment issues. PITCOM addresses the public policy issues generated by ICT and their application across the public and private sectors of the UK economy. Evening meetings in the House of Commons cover subjects such as Data Protection issues, IT skills requirements for the 21st century, Electronic Crime, Modernising Government Services, Information Warfare, the E-commerce Bill and Third Generation Mobile Telephony. PITCOM has recently extended its influence internationally, and the provision of special Exhibitions of New Technology for newly-elected MPs after General Elections. Contact Details
