The DIUS brings together the nation's strengths in science, research, universities and colleges to build a dynamic, knowledge-based economy. The Department works to:
The Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills is supported by the Minister of State, Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Skills, Minister of State for Science and Innovation, and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Intellectual Property and Quality. The Secretary of State (SoS) for DIUS has overall Departmental responsibility for Government science policy and support for Science and Innovation (S&I) in the cross departmental role as Cabinet Minister for Science and Innovation. The two key policy areas relevant to science are Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education and Science and Innovation.
