Composition

The Ministerial Committee on Science and Innovation has been superseded in the re-organisation in 2007 by the Sub-Committee on Productivity, Skills and Employment (ED(PSE)). This is the Cabinet Sub-Committee that provides the framework for the collective consideration of, and decisions on, major science policy issues. Its terms of reference are to consider issues relating to productivity and competitiveness, including skills, employment, science and innovation; and report as necessary to the Committee on Economic Development.

The composition of the sub-committee is as follows:

  • Chancellor of the Exchequer (Chair)
  • Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs
  • Secretary of State for the Home Department
  • Secretary of State for Defence; and Secretary of State for Scotland
  • Secretary of State for Health
  • Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • Secretary of State for International Development
  • Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform
  • Secretary of State for Work and Pensions; and Secretary of State for Wales
  • Minister for the Cabinet Office, and Chancellor for the Duchy of Lancaster
  • Secretary of State for Transport
  • Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government
  • Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families
  • Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport
  • Secretary of State for Northern Ireland
  • Chief Secretary to the Treasury
  • Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills
